Imam wanted historic referendum to be held soon

It has been reported through a series of memoirs that Imam wanted the relevant authorities to hold referendum soon after the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979.

Sadiq Tabatabaei, who was among the team tasked with organizing the vote, had conveyed to Imam the logistic and other problems which could have led to a delay or temporary postponement.

But Imam at the sensitive juncture of the history recommended the referendum should be held as soon as people so people can cast ballots and take part in their destiny by determining the type of the government system.

In accordance with Imam’s instruction, the authorities could overcome all hurdles and held the vote, in which an overwhelming majority voted in favor of establishing the Islamic Republic system.

Imam who had support of large public masses always attached great importance to holding referendums, popular votes, parliamentary and presidential elections.

Imam established a democratic system along with promoting the Islamic values.
