Imam Khomeini Acted as Messenger of Peace: Rouhani

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani says the personality of the founder of the Islamic Republic was too comprehensive as he acted as a supreme commander during the wartime and messenger of peace at the same time.

Denouncing all types of extremism, the president said the extremists have been constantly unable to learn how to compromise and adjust themselves in accordance with historical realities and tough conditions.

He made a remarks while delivering a lecture to an international summit in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

President Rouhani also said that the great Imam Khomeini set good patterns for both the time of war and peace. He also noted that exercising a real heroic diplomacy was even more difficult than the time of war.

The president went onto say that the holy prophet of Islam and his infallible successors undertook uprising, exercised diplomacy, and signed peace landmark accords in various condition and circumstances.

The holy prophet defended the faithful against disbelievers in the historical battles of Badr and Uhud. However, he also signed accord of Hudabiah which proved beneficial for the Muslims in the long run, the president emphasized.

Rouhani also said that following conduct of the holy prophet’s household members would lead to unity among the entire Muslim Ummah and would help them to sort out their differences and settle divisions.

The president concluded that those some states with their petrodollar were backing terrorist organizations operating the region. They will backfire on them and bite the hands of their own masters.

The president’s remarks come as the Saudi Arabia, Qatar and some other Persian Gulf Arab states are supporting the militancy in Iraq and Syria.

The president appealed the Shia and Sunni scholars to create real conditions for establishing unity and promoting peace among the Muslim societies and communities.
