Senior cleric Ayatollah Kashani, Imam's companion, passes away

Ayatollah Mohammad Emami Kashani, one of Iran’s top senior clerics and a close companion of Imam Khomeini has passed away at the age of 92.

Reports suggest that Ayatollah Kashani died of a heart attack, late on Saturday.

Born on the 3rd of October 1931, Ayatollah Kashani was an interim leader of Tehran Friday Prayers and served as a member of the Assembly of Experts, a key deliberative body tasked with supervising and electing the country’s Supreme Leader.

 Ayatollah Kashani was a member of the Assembly of Experts and was the interim Imam of Tehran Friday Prayers as well as the head of Shahid Motahari School.

Imam had great respect for Ayatollah Kashani who stood by Imam through all thin and thick times and especially during struggle for the Islamic Revolution.

The senior cleric served on various positions following the victory of Islamic Revolution under Imam Khomeini leadership in 1979. 

The senior cleric was also the head of Shahid Motahari University in Tehran and performed various seminary roles in recentyears.
