Desecrating the holy scripture of Qur’an means an all-out attack on entire identity of Muslims

Seyyed Hassan Khomeini, grandson of the late founder of the Islamic Republic says the incidents of desecration of the holy Muslim book of Qura’an in Sweden and elsewhere in the West have been an all-out attack on the whole Muslim identity.

The internationally-reputed scholar made remarks while addressing students at Imam Khomeini University in the southern Pakistani port city of Karachi.

He strongly denounced the burning and desecration of the Holy Scripture under the banner of the freedom of expression has been absolutely unacceptable.

Elsewhere in the speech and lecture, he explained the philosophy behind the Ashura uprising by Imam Hossein (‘a), who rendered great sacrifices in order to save the divine and pure teachings of Islam.

The scholar said that a number of reasons could be presented to explain the divine-oriented uprising of Ashura.

For an instance, some say that Imam Hossein (‘a) wanted to restore the pure sunnah of the holy prophet of Islam, while others say his efforts aimed at toppling the then corrupt ruling dynasty of Ummah.

And there could be multiple objective which are all to some extent correct, but there is consensus that Imam Hossein (‘a) was not satisfied with the status quo. Such society in which corrupt like Yazid could become ruler couldn’t be tolerated.

On Friday, members of the Islamophobic and far-right nationalist group “Danske Patrioter (Danish Patriots)” burned a copy of the Holy Qur’an in front of Iraq’s Embassy in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Earlier this week, Salwan Momika, a 37-year-old Iraqi refugee living in Sweden, stomped and kicked the Holy Qur’an, just weeks after he set fire to pages of the holy book outside a Stockholm mosque.

In January, Rasmus Paludan, a far-right Danish leader, burned a copy of the Qur’an in front of the Turkish Embassy in Stockholm. The incident sparked outrage and condemnation across the Islamic world.

The spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry recently said European countries must adopt proper measures aimed at preventing the recurrence of Holy Qur’an desecration by extremist individuals or groups.
