A memoir by Imam’s daughter-in-law about women participation

It has been reported that once a prominent figure came to meet Imam and said that right now you have all power and can stop women from working in the government institution. And only the men should be entitled to working at offices and other places.

Dr. Fatima Tabataba’ei recalled that Imam shared the views of that figure with her and said that it were his views.

I was surprised by such a suggestion and said to Imam had he really come to make such a demand from your Eminence.

At this Imam replied: I wonder why they think in such a strange way?

It is a worthy to mention that Imam was greatest supporter of women rights and large number of female activists had participated in the struggle for the Islamic Revolution under the wise leadership of Imam Khomeini.

Women took very active part and contributed largely to the progress of the nation following the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979.

Imam time and again had asked for widespread participation of women in all arenas of life including social, cultural and political.
