Hazrat Abbas (PBUH) displayed matchless sacrifice, insight and loyalty

The value of those martyred at Karbala is that they defended the sanctum of Truth in the most difficult conditions one can ever imagine.

Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Republic once said in a historic message that matchless sacrifice of the Household of Imam Hussein (PBUH) and his Companions shook the pillars of tyrant rulers.

“The revolution of Ashura emerged at the hands of the Master of Martyrs (PBUH), who by sacrificing his own blood and the blood of his dear ones saved Islam and justice, and condemned the rule of the Umayyads and demolished its rules and foundations.”

The month of Sha’ban reminds us of Hazrat Abbas’s birthday anniversary at Medina on 4th Shabaan 26 A.H.(645 A.D.).

The loyalty of Abbas Ibn Ali is famous for his brother Imam Hussain in defending divine values on the day of Ashura.

When the news of his birth reached Hazrat Ali (PBUH), he prostrated himself on the ground as a token of his humble thanks to God.

It has been reported that Imam Hussain (PBUH) took the baby in his arms and recited the Azan and Eqamat (Calls for Prayers) in his right and left ears.

We also bring some statements from leader of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei  who highlighted divine characteristics  of Hazrat Abalfazl al-Abbas (PBUH).

In the praying texts and in annotations by Imams (peace be upon them) on Abbas Ibn Ali (PBUH), two characteristics are emboldened; insight and loyalty.

On what occasion is the loyalty of Abbas Ibn Ali perceived? All followers of Imam Hussein (PUBH) were in possession of insight but in all practicality Abbas was more intuitive.

On the day of Tasu'a, this evening, when the opportunity arose for Abbas to rescue himself from a disastrous situation - they offered him a safety in exchange for surrendering, the enemy said,”we will protect you” - his reaction was so courageous that it made the enemy feel remorseful. He said, “Am I supposed to leave Hussein? Shame on you! Fie upon you and your safe conduct!”

More so than any other time, the loyalty of Abbas Ibn Ali is revealed, clearly, upon events that he approached at the Euphrates river - where he refused to drink water.

The nobleness of Hazrat Abalfazl al-Abbas is due to his endeavor, sacrifice, sincerity and his awareness of the Imam (as) of his time. It is due to his patience and resistance.

It is because he abstained from drinking water [he was extremely thirsty] when water was right in front of him; and during this time there was no religious or customary law that would've prevented him from quenching his thirst.

The value of those martyred at Karbala is that they defended the sanctum of Truth in the most difficult conditions one can ever imagine.
