Iran pledges support for anti-terror fight

Iranian president says the Islamic Republic will always stand by the Iraqi nation and government in the fight against terrorism.

In a recent meeting with visiting Chairman of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq (ISCI) Ammar Hakim in the Iranian capital Tehran, Hassan Rouhani also stressed that Iran would help protect the holy shrines in Iraq.

The Iranian president hailed as a very important the recent victories of the Iraqi people and government against militants.

President Rouhani called on all people from all Iraqi ethnicities, faiths and political groups to strengthen their national solidarity and maintain their unity.

The ISCI chairman, for his part, hailed Iran’s great role in the fight against terrorism in Iraq. Hakim emphasized that Iraqis would maintain their unity until the full eradication of terrorism across the country.

Also In a meeting with visiting Chairman of the ISCI Ammar Hakim, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that Iran would stand by the Iraqi nation until the Arab nation is fully cleaned of terrorist groups.

Zarif also called for a stronger unity among various Iraqi groups as the key to defeat the Takfiri terror groups, saying the ultimate defeat of the terrorists depends on a strong unity among sects and different political factions both inside Iraq and other regional countries.

The top Iranian diplomat censured the recent wave of Daesh-claimed bomb attacks that have left hundreds of Iraqis dead in recent days, expressing sympathy for the Iraqi nation and government.

Hakim, in turn, thanked Iran for supporting the Iraqi nation in the battle against terrorism. He noted that the Daesh terror group is on the brink of total defeat.

Hakim also held talks with Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani in Tehran. Shamkhani vowed that Iran would not give up its advisory support for Iraq and Syria until the full elimination of terror threats gripping the Mideast region.

Some parts of Iraq have been plagued by gruesome violence ever since Daesh terrorists began their terror campaign in the country in June 2014. Iraqi government forces and allied Popular Mobilization Forces are seeking to win back militant-held regions in joint operations.

It is worthy to mention that Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Republic through his messages and speeches denounced all forms of violence and terrorism.

Following the footsteps of the late founder of the Islamic Republic, senior Iranian officials have taken a leading role in helping neighboring countries to root out terrorism.
