Chairman of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq (ISCI) Ammar Hakim has visited Imam Khomeini’s holy mausoleum in Tehran.

Hakim was warmly received by Hojjat al-Islam Seyyed Ali Khomeini, the grandson of the late founder of the Islamic Republic

The Iraqi leader said that Imam Khomeini, the late founding leader of the Islamic Republic, has been a great figure who led a great Islamic revolution in contemporary history and maintained peace across Iran following the historic victory in 1979.

Imam Khomeini’s holy shrine which is located on the southern outskirts of the Iranian capital has become beacon of religious, spiritual and academic activities in recent years. The holy site is visited by officials, politicians, world leaders and thousands of tourists and pilgrims each year.

In a meeting with visiting chairman of the ISCI, Seyyed Ali Khomeini also hoped that Iraq will soon get rid of militancy and Takfiri Daesh terrorist group which is wreaking havoc in the Arab country.

Imam Khomeini’s grandson also hailed the victories recently accomplished by the Popular Mobilization Units, known as Hashd al-Shaabi, against the terror group.

Some parts of Iraq have been plagued by gruesome violence ever since Daesh militant group mounted an offensive in the country in June 2014. Iraqi government forces, backed by fighters from pro-government volunteer forces have been pushing the militants out of the country’s territory.
