Iran warns against spread of terrorism

Iranian foreign minister has warned against the spread of extremism which he said would fuel sectarianism in the region.

In a meeting with Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov on Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Tehran and Ashgabad enjoy great opportunities to boost cooperation in the battle against extremism, violence, terrorism and drugs smuggling.

Meredov, for his part, said his country attaches great significance to expansion of cooperation with Iran.

Also Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in a meeting with Meredov said Tehran and Ashgabat must expand cooperation in line with the two nations’ interests.

The Iranian president went onto say that Iran and Turkmenistan need to strengthen cooperation in a bid to help establish regional peace and stability and fight extremism, terrorism and drugs trafficking.

Rouhani stressed that boosting cooperation among Iran, Turkmenistan and other regional states would increase economic interaction and promote stability, unity and solidarity in the region.

The president also urged the two countries to bolster cooperation in several sectors, including tourism, environment preservation of the Caspian Sea region and determination of its legal regime. He also commended bilateral relations between Tehran and Ashgabat in energy and power sectors.

It is worthy to mention that Imam Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic, through his messages and speeches frequently stressed to maintain amicable ties with all nations. Imam also stressed the need of confronting all types of violence and terrorism.

Following the footsteps of Imam Khomeini, the senior Iranian officials have pursued a policy of maintaining pleasant relations with all states and nations, and closely coordinate with them to counter terrorism across various parts of the globe.
