Terrorism must be tackled

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has recently emphasized that terrorism is a serious threat and must be tackled

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has said terrorismis a serious threat and must be countered and confronted.

In a meeting with visiting German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier,  Rouhani also emphasized that efforts must be made to block financial and military support for terrorists.

The president noted that the terrorist incidents in recent months showed terrorism is a threat to all, including the European Union (EU).

He also called for closer cooperation between Tehran and Berlin following the implementation of the nuclear deal and the lifting of anti-Iran sanctions.

Rouhani underscored the necessity of planning for long-term partnership between the two sides. The top German diplomat, in turn, stressed the need to boost mutual relations.

Imam Khomeini, the founder of Islamic Republic, used to oppose all type of violence and terrorism.

Imam through his speeches, messages and works opposed militant and extremist groups which were created by the colonial powers to create divisions, sectarianism and strife among the Muslims.

In recent years, Daesh and several other terrorist groups have been wreaking havoc across several Muslim countries, especially in Iraq and Syria.

These terrorist groups have committed heinous crimes against followers of all religions including Shia,  Sunni and Christians. They have also committed crimes against all ethnic communities.

The militant groups have also destroyed archeological and religious sites including mosques and churches.

Following footsteps of Imam Khomeini, senior Iranian officials have frequently condemned acts being committed by the terrorist groups against humanity.
