Imam Khomeini paved path of peace, progress: President

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani says Imam Khomeini the founder of the Islamic Republic taught us how to pave the way of progress and peace

At a ceremony in honor of Ayatollah Khomeini’s return to Iran after a 15-year exile Feb. 1, 1979, Rouhani said, “Imam [Khomeini] taught us the path of moderation, progress and development. An imam that at various points stood up to arrogance and the enemy and taught us anti-arrogance and had the courage to, when necessary, choose the path of peace and continue the path of stability and development for the country.”

The president and his cabinet members were  received Imam’s grandson Hassan Khomeini at the holy shrine of the founder of Islamic Republic.

The developments also come as various ceremonies and celebrations on the 36th anniversary of the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution began in Iran with the presence of military and state officials at Imam Khomeini’s holy shrine.

The ceremonies marking the 36th anniversary of Islamic Revolution kicked off across Iran on Sunday marking the day when the late founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini (RA) arrived back home on February 1, 1979, after spending more than 14 years in exile in Turkey, Iraq and France.

The ceremony was attended by officials, families of martyrs and war-veterans and different groups of people from all walks of life.

Parliament Deputy-Speaker Aboutorabi-Fard addressed the main ceremony held at the mausoleum of Imam Khomeini south of Tehran. 

Ten days after Imam Khomeini's arrival on February 1, the Revolution gained victory on February 11, 1979. The ten days between the two dates is titled as Fajr Decade and is celebrated every year across the country. Overthrowing the US-backed Pahlavi regime 36 years ago, the Iranian nation put an end to 2,500 years of monarchic rule in the country.

Commemoration of Islamic Revolution has also been held by representatives of Iran’s embassies in 60 countries throughout the world.
