Scholars must resort to rational approaches: Dr. Moghaddam

The director of the international department of the institute says that scholars and jurist must resort to rational approaches towards understanding and comprehending various perspectives of religion.

Dr. Mohammad Moghaddam , an internationally reputed Muslim scholar also strongly denounced the extremism and terrorism being practiced by the militant groups such as ISIL, also known as Daesh.


Hojjat al-Islam Moghaddam further stressed that where there will be extremist and strict approaches , the existence and emergence of such groups will be imminent.


The scholar also emphasized on vast use of rational and genuine mystic approaches in jurisprudence and several other Islamic disciplines of knowledge.


He also underscored significance of promoting intellect in Muslim seminaries in accordance with needs of times and conditions of contemporary era.


The Muslim figure also said that extremism was product of ignorance, lack of knowledge and unawareness.


The academic figure also said that Imam Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic had suggested proper methods which were aimed at fostering unity among all the Muslim sects and preventing them from paving the way of extremism.


He also suggested the path of moderation which could lead to the Islamic societies and the Muslim world towards prosperity and salvation.


The prominent cleric also added that existence of extremist groups did not restrict to only the Muslim societies, but similar hard-line factions has had also long history among the Christian, Jewish and other faiths and communities as well.


The famous analyst also said that the vacuum of spirituality, lack of values and shaking pillars of families and some other factors had caused some Western youth also show inclination towards extremism.


He also emphasized on close coordination and meaningful dialogue among followers of all faiths to prevent form falling into pits of extremism.  The scholar concluded that rational approach towards religious issues, tolerance, and mutual coordination among all followers will guarantee a peaceful society and world full of tranquility.


The remarks come as the ISIL terrorists have committed heinous crimes and threatened all communities, including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds, Christians and Izadi Kurds, during their advances in Iraq and Syria.


The ISIL and its associated militant groups are blamed for numerous sacrilegious acts. The ISIL Takfiri militants also issued several statements in recent days calling for the destruction of all religious and historic sites in the Mideast region.


The UK-based human rights group Amnesty International has recently condemned ISIL terrorists for committing "war crimes, including mass summary killings, beheadings, crucifixions, and abductions."
