Seyyed Hassan Khomeini condoles Ayatollah Ardebili's passing

The grandson of the founder of Islamic Republic has extended its condolences over passing away of a senior Iranian cleric and Shia marja (source of emulation), Ayatollah Abdul-Karim Mousavi Ardebili.

In a condolence message, Ayatollah Seyyed Hassan Khomeini said that that late Ardebili joined the movement for the Islamic Revolution under wise leadership of Imam Khomeini at very early stages.


Seyyed Hassan Khomeini also stressed that late Ardebili was highly trusted by Imam Khomeini and served at sensitive positions following the victory of the Islamic Revolution.   


Ayatollah Ardebili passed away after suffering cardiac and digestive complications. He died at the age of 91 at the Laleh Hospital in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Wednesday.


Iranian President Hassan Rouhani declared two days of national mourning over his death.


Ayatollah Ardebelli became a founding member of the former Islamic Republic Party.


The Late Founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran Imam Khomeini appointed him as judiciary chief in 1981.


Ayatollah Mousavi Ardebili had been appointed the head of the Supreme Court in 1981 after the assassination of Ayatollah Mohammad Beheshti, who had held the office until then. He served at the position for 6 years.


He had also held positions in the Council of the Islamic Revolution, the Assembly of Experts, and the Attorney-General’s Office.


Ayatollah Mousavi Ardebili In the final years of his life, he served as the dean of Mofid University in the Iranian city of Qom.
