Iran’s president seeks unity among independent nations

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has called for stronger unity among independent states in pursuit of their common goals.

The Iranian president made remarks during meetings with senior officials of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Venezuela.


President Rouhani said that the Islamic Republic welcomes closer relations with Latin American states.


He also further emphasized the need for all independent nations to stand united in efforts to pursue their common objectives


On the sidelines of the summit, during meetings with Muslim delegates, Iranian President also said the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and NAM must fulfill their responsibility to promote regional peace and stability.


NAM, an international organization with 120 member states and 21 observer countries, is regarded as not formally aligned with or against any major power bloc.


NAM represents nearly two-thirds of the UN members and is regarded as not formally aligned with or against any major power bloc.


The NAM meeting brought together heads of state and delegates to discuss key regional and international issues.


It is notable that Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Republic through his speeches and messages frequently urged NAM and OIC to play decisive role in resolving the world problems.
