During the incident of the attack by the oppressive Pahlavi regime’s agents on the Faidhiyyah Theological Seminary in Qom, I was at first inside the theological seminary but on seeing the abnormal situation of the meeting and the theological seminary, I left the meeting midway and went to the Imam’s residence. A few seminary students were present with him at his home and were discussing the situation at the theological seminary. Right then a number of seminary students who were beaten up and injured entered the Imam’s residence and narrated the incident of the theological seminary and mentioned how the regime’s agents had beaten up, killed and wounded a number of them. One of the seminary students requested the Imam to allow him to shut the door of the house as a preventive measure in case the agent’s attacked the house—but he flatly refused. One of the erudite scholars who was a friend of the Imam interjected saying that it wasn’t a bad idea to shut the door as it was dangerous to leave it open in this situation. However, the Imam responded: “If you insist (on this issue) then I shall leave the house and take to the streets. They should have hit my head with these batons instead of hitting the seminary students with them. Should I now shut the door to my house (on them)! What do you mean?”
